歷史
高潔林華人播道會最初由幾位母堂(溫哥華華人播道會)弟兄姊妹,因對高潔林地區有負擔而開始查經班,繼而租用地方舉辦英語班、主日崇拜、主日學、團契、中文學校等事工,後來買下西人教會建築物。九零年代大量香港移民湧至,三聯市是新發展地區,房屋價錢廉宜,吸引移民搬入這裏居住,教會增長極快。神亦預備牧者帶領教會,先後有劉楚沅長老、李穗愛姑娘、陳培明牧師、李翼環先生、Pastor Brian Friesen、胡正中牧師及吳志獻牧師、蘇定邦傳道等等。起初的數年,母堂不單在人手上協助,亦在經濟上支持,以致教會一無所缺。更感恩的是,神興起一班忠心的信徒,在順境時忠心於神的家,在逆境時仍然不離不棄的事奉神。
History
The Coquitlam Chinese Evangelical Free Church originally began as a Bible study group started by a few brothers and sisters from our mother church (Vancouver Chinese Evangelical Free Church) who felt a calling for the Coquitlam area. This was followed by renting space from a local church to run ministries such as English conversation classe, Sunday worship, Sunday school, fellowships, and a Chinese school. Later on, they has takened up the mortgage and fully complete the purchase.
In the 1990s, a massive influx of immigrants from Hong Kong arrived. As a newly developing area with affordable housing, the Tri-Cities attracted many immigrants to settle here, leading to rapid church growth. God also prepared pastors to lead the church, including Elder Lau Chor-yuen, Minister Lee Sui-oi, Rev. Chan Pui-ming, Mr. Lee Yick-wan, Pastor Brian Friesen, Rev. Wu Ching-chung, Rev. Ng Chi-hin, and Evangelist So Ding-bong, among others. During the initial years, the mother church supported us not only with manpower but also financially, ensuring the church lacked nothing. More to be thankful for is that God raised up a group of faithful believers who served God loyally in His house during prosperous times and remained steadfastly devoted through times of adversity.
Denomination
The Evangelical Free Church is a denomination, yet at times it does not seem like a conventional one. Historically, due to its theological stance and spiritual quality, the Evangelical Free Church has always demonstrated a strong sense of cohesion, without being bound by written codes and regulations. This phenomenon is directly related to the background and faith characteristics of the denomination. The early Evangelical Free Church began in the United States, with the majority of its members coming from Sweden, and a minority from Norway and Denmark.
Following the migration waves of that era, many immigrated to the United States. Consequently, these Christians left their original churches to establish a new church where they could worship freely according to biblical teachings and the prompting of the Holy Spirit. This became the “Evangelical Free Church.” Among the early believers, God raised up many gifted, highly educated individuals with deep spiritual vision who did extensive nurturing and teaching work within the church. We see the fruit of this work throughout the history of the Evangelical Free Church. A principle that early believers insisted on adhering to was: whether in matters of faith and truth, methods of church ministry, or even in apologetics—if there is biblical teaching, we must obey it; if there is none, we have the freedom not to follow it. This has become a defining characteristic of the Evangelical Free Church.
宗派
播道會是一個宗派,但有時又似乎不像一個宗派。傳統的播道會,因著信仰的立場及屬靈的質素,一向都表現出很強的向心力,但卻沒有被成文規條所約束。這種現象與播道會的背景及信仰特色有直接關係。早期的播道會,是從美國開始的,會友大部分是從瑞典而來,少部分來自挪威、丹麥等地方。在北歐的國家,如瑞典、挪威及丹麥等。
後來隨著當時的移民潮,許多移民到美國,於是這些基督徒脫離原屬的教會,另成立一個可以按著聖經的教訓和聖靈的感動而自由敬拜的教會,就是「福音自由教會」(Evangelical Free Church)。在初期的播道會信徒中,神興起了許多有恩賜、受過高深教育,且有深度屬靈眼光的人,在教會中作了許多栽培教導的工作。我們在整個播道會的歷史中看見了這些工作的果效。初期播道會信徒堅持遵守的原則,就是:不論在信仰真理上、教會工作的方法上、甚至在護教上,只要有聖經的教訓,我們就應當遵守;沒有的,便有權不遵守,這成了播道會一個重要的特色。
